Energy efficient electric heaters

You may have central heating already installed within your home as your main source of hearing, but this may not be adequate for your needs, which is why you may consider buying energy efficient electric heaters. These can be a wonderful addition as a heating source and can provide instant heat at a time when your regular radiators are still warming up. To run them on a constant basis may not be quite as cost effective as central heating or other forms of heating, but if you only need the heating in one room then it makes more sense to use a localized immediate heat rather than use a whole system of energy to heat one room.

An added benefit of electric heaters is that they are portable and so can be moved from room to room when you need them. This keeps the heat element energy efficient, although it may be a little awkward if they are not on wheels.

Size matters!

When considering energy efficient electric heaters you will need to take into account the size of the room you are wanting to heat and the size of the heater. There is little point buying a larger heater than you need, as this would be counter productive to energy efficient electric heaters. Usually, electric heaters will have a thermostat so the heat level can be adjusted, but it is always better to buy something that suits your needs rather than adjusting downwards. The price will also reflect the size of the heater too.

Does your heater need a fan?

To keep the air warm within a room it needs to circulate. Some models of energy efficient electric heaters will provide a fan to do exactly this. However, do remember that extra electricity will be used running the fan in addition to the heat. It may not be much more but it is still an additional cost. However, with the built in features of adjustable thermostat, the heater should turn itself off when it reaches the required temperature. In fact, it should also have a built in safety mechanism that allows it to cut off in times of emergency or if there is a danger of overheating.

Safety first

Once you have your energy efficient electric heaters, you may be tempted to use them for a variety of reasons other than heating. For example, some people will put clothes to dry directly in front of the heat source in an attempt to dry washing. This can be a dangerous practice and is not to be recommended. The washing can topple onto the heater if not properly supported and this can cause overheating. Luckily, your model will have a cut-off switch so that no fire will ensue. Never ever under any circumstances put clothes or any other object directly onto the surface of the energy efficient electric heaters. That’s just inviting trouble.

You will find that by reducing the thermostat on your main source of heating by a couple of degrees and introducing a couple of energy efficient electric heaters to where they are needed, you will be warmer and your overall heating bill will be much lesser.
